Root canal treatment is a specialist dental procedure that removes infected or damaged tissue from inside a tooth, allowing you to keep your natural tooth rather than having it removed. It’s one of the most effective ways to relieve dental pain and prevent the spread of infection.
The procedure involves gently cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system before sealing it to prevent future infection. At Dentistry on Gipsy Hill, we use the latest rotary instruments and precision techniques to make treatment as quick, comfortable and effective as possible.
Benefits of Root Canal Treatment
- Stops toothache and sensitivity
- Prevents the spread of infection
- Saves your natural tooth from extraction
- Restores chewing function and comfort
- Maintains facial structure and tooth alignment
- More cost-effective than tooth replacement options
We start with an in-depth consultation to assess the tooth and surrounding area. If root canal therapy is needed, we’ll explain your options clearly and provide an estimate for treatment.
A small hole is created in the tooth to access the pulp chamber. The infected or dead tissue is removed, and the root canal system is disinfected thoroughly.
The root canal is sealed to prevent reinfection. In many cases, we recommend a crown to strengthen and protect the restored tooth.
You’ll return to your general dentist for the final restoration. We’ll also arrange a review 6–12 months later to check healing and long-term success.
Root canals have a reputation — but they don’t need to be painful or stressful. At our Gipsy Hill practice, we take a calm, clear and expert approach to root canal treatment.
We work closely with experienced endodontists and use modern equipment designed to deliver more accurate, faster treatment with minimal discomfort. From initial consultation to follow-up, we make sure you feel informed, at ease and completely supported.
Whether you’ve been referred or you’re coming to us directly, we’ll help you save your tooth and protect your long-term oral health — all with the warmth and reassurance we’re known for.
Endodontics is a branch of dentistry focused on treating the soft tissue (pulp) inside your teeth. Root canal therapy is one of the most common endodontic procedures.
Not at all. Modern techniques and local anaesthetic make root canal treatment no more uncomfortable than having a filling. Most patients feel relief from pain after the procedure.
Untreated infection can cause pain, swelling and spread to other areas — and may eventually lead to tooth loss. Root canal treatment helps avoid this and saves the tooth.
The main alternative is extraction. While this removes the problem, replacing the missing tooth with an implant or bridge is often more invasive and costly. Saving your natural tooth is typically the best option.
