Dental crowns — also known as “caps” — are custom restorations designed to cover and protect a damaged or weakened tooth. They sit over the entire surface of the tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength and natural appearance.
Whether your tooth is cracked, worn down, or has been treated with a large filling or root canal, a dental crown can restore both function and aesthetics. At Dentistry on Gipsy Hill, we use only the highest-quality materials and a personalised approach to ensure every crown blends beautifully with your natural teeth.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
- Strengthens and protects damaged teeth
- Restores function for chewing and speaking
- Matches the colour, shape and size of surrounding teeth
- Long-lasting results with proper care
- Improves cosmetic appearance
- Protects teeth after root canal treatment or implant placement
We begin by examining your tooth and taking digital X-rays (if required). We’ll determine whether a crown is the best option and talk you through the treatment steps.
The tooth is gently reshaped, and precise impressions are taken. These are sent to our skilled dental technicians who will craft your crown to match your natural smile.
You’ll receive a temporary crown to protect your tooth while the final version is being made. This typically takes 1–2 weeks.
Once ready, your permanent crown is carefully fitted and bonded into place. We’ll make minor adjustments to ensure a perfect bite and seamless look.
Led by Dr Bobby Bandlish — a restorative specialist with a Master’s degree in crowns, bridges and implant restoration — we bring exceptional attention to detail and decades of experience to every crown procedure.
We understand how important it is that your crown looks and feels like a natural part of your smile. That’s why we work with leading labs and take the time to get the shape, shade and fit absolutely right.
Whether you need a single crown or a full smile restoration, we’ll make sure you feel informed, confident and completely cared for from start to finish.
With proper care, dental crowns can last 10–15 years or more. Regular hygiene visits and good oral care at home are key to longevity.
Yes — our crowns are colour-matched and shaped to blend seamlessly with your other teeth. Most people won’t be able to tell it’s there.
Not at all. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and is usually no more uncomfortable than getting a filling.
Porcelain crowns are more natural-looking and ideal for front teeth. Metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are sometimes used on back teeth for added strength. We’ll recommend what suits your case best.
